Geothermal Cooling System Installation & Replacement
Geothermal heat pumps operate almost exactly the same way as standard heat pumps, except rather than using the fluctuating air temperatures as the heat exchange medium, geothermal heat pumps use the constant temperature of the earth by being installed in vertical boreholes in the earth’s surface. According to the Department of Energy, this allows the system to reach efficiencies of 300 – 600 percent even on the coldest winter nights, compared to 175 – 250 percent for air-source heat pumps on cool days. Geothermal heat pumps with a properly designed earth loop need little or no auxiliary heating.
